It is illegal to drive a vehicle while using a hand-held mobile phone.
Using a hand-held mobile phone is illegal even when you are stopped at traffic lights.
Penalties:
- NSW: Three demerit points and a fine
- QLD: Three demerit points and a $300 fine
- SA: Three demerit points and a fine
- Vic: Three demerit points and a fine
- WA: Three demerit points and a $250 fine
It is illegal to use a hands-free phone while driving, if it causes you to lose proper control of your vehicle
Penalties:
- NSW: Three demerit points and a fine
- QLD: Three demerit points and a $300 fine
- SA: The offence of driving without due care or dangerous driving.
